When you wish to leave Kumamoto or Japan for a short period of time, you are expected to notify the manager of the I-House and the staff in the academic section of the faculty you belong to.
As a general rule, you are allowed to stay at the I-House for six months since it accepts new international students twice a year. You may be allowed to extend your stay if there are some rooms available after we accommodate new students. Please note that short-term exchange students are usually allowed to stay up to one year.
Telecommunication Facilities in the I-House
Two public phones located in the entrance hall are used for making international calls. If you would like to use a computer with internet access in your room,
please ask the manager or the International Affairs Section for an application.
Application for Residence
If you wish to reside in the I-House, you should tell your academic advisor so that s/he can apply for a room on your behalf. If you do not wish to live in the I-House, you have to find accommodation by yourself. In that case, please be advised that when finalizing a contract to rent a room in Japan, it is customary to have to pay a rental deposit, key money and rental estate agent's fee in addition to your monthly rent.
These fees will total approximately four to six months of rent and must be paid in advance. In addition, rental apartments do not usually come furnished.
