To support students who have just come to Japan and have not yet enough ability of Japanese language and also some difficulties to adjust themselves to Japanese customs, there is a tutor system in place.
Tutors are current students at the university.
Kumamoto University offers Japanese courses to exchange students based on their respective abilities.
There are also courses available where students can get a taste of Japanese history and culture. Students also have the chance to participate in study visits and exchange student field trips.
There is a trained counselor available who will listen to the various problems and troubles that international students have.
The counselor will keep all consultations confidential, so students can feel free to speak freely.
Any issue can be discussed with the counselor, such as trouble with one's academic studies, life in Japan, sexual harassment, etc. Counseling is available in Japanese or English.
At the health center on campus, a trained staff is available to make student lives healthy.
Students can get regular medical check-ups, medical treatment for illnesses, and can consult with staff on any health issues they might have.
