Admission for Privately-funded International Students

Admission for Research Students and Auditors
Outline
Research students conduct research in their particular specialty area under the supervision of their academic advisor for a predetermined period of time.
As a general rule, all undergraduate faculties and graduate school research departments have a 1-year period of stay for research students.

Auditors are required to take 10 hours class (equivalent of 7 credits) or more per week and get credit as a part-time student. The period of study for auditors is 1 year.

Admission Procedures
- Enrollment for April, the application period is the late October in the previous year. (Regarding the applicants who stay in Japan, the application deadline is the early March.)

- Enrollment for October, the application period is the late April in the same year. (Regarding the applicants who stay in Japan, the application deadline is the middle of July.)

The examination for research students and auditors will be done by screening the candidates' application papers and by personal interview. (The Faculty of Letters and Master's Course in Letters run an additional essay examination.)


Regarding Transferring
   (Faculties of Letters, Law, Science and Engineering)

For those who have graduated from of a junior college (or who will be in the current academic year) and wish to enter Kumamoto University as a 3rd-year student, please directly contact the Academic Section clerk in the Faculty you are interested in.


Regarding Entry Visas to Take Examination

For applications for entry visas to take the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students or the university's entrance examination, please contact your nearest embassy (or consulate general). Please apply for a short-term visa. At that time, it is advisable to show documents such as your examination admission card.
