There are various ways to study abroad at Kumamoto University depending on the purpose of your studies, method of studying abroad, and your intended length of stay.
1) In the case that you wish to pursue acquiring an academic degree, various full-time undergraduate and graduate level degree courses are available at the university.
2) In the case that you wish to study without the aim of acquiring a degree, it is possible for you to study at the university for a period of up to one year as a research student and auditor.
3) In the case that your university has already concluded a student exchange agreement with Kumamoto University, it is possible for you to study at the university as a special auditor under the agreement.
There are two main ways to receive financial support as a international student at Kumamoto University.
1) Study abroad at the university with your own private funds and then look for scholarships from such places as private foundations during your stay at the university.
2) Study abroad at the university supported by a Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology = Monbukagakusho) scholarship.
There are several other ways to receive financial support, such as obtaining a scholarship from your home country’s government or from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
