The following information is an application procedure
for the Japanese Government Scholarship for 2006.
This information should only be used as a guide.
To those successful candidates who have passed the first stage of the selection process for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarships (embassy recommendation) and who wish to gain direct entrance permission as a full-time student or a letter of acceptance as a researcher at a graduate school at Kumamoto University, please apply by adhering to the steps outlined below:
1. Qualifications
Those who have officially passed the preliminary selection process for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarships at a Japanese Embassy/Consulate General
2. . Available Graduate Courses of Study
(1) Master's Course in Letters
(2) Master's Course in Education
(3) Master's Course in Law
(4) Graduate School of Social and Cultural Sciences (PhD course)
(5) Graduate School of Science and Technology (Master's course and PhD course)
(6) Graduate School of Medical Sciences (Master's course)
(7) Graduate School of Medical Sciences (PhD course)
(8) Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master's course and PhD course)
3. Forms to Submit
(1) The set of forms originally submitted to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General (and that have the seal of the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General on them), which includes:
・Application for Admission
・Field of Study and Study Program
・Certified academic records of each academic year of the university attended
・Recommendation from the university president, dean, or the academic professor under whom the applicant has studied
・Diploma of the university attended most recently (or a Certificate of Expected Graduation in the case you are expected to graduate soon)
・Certificate of degree
・Abstract of graduate thesis (necessary only for those intending to apply to enter a PhD course)
・Photograph(s) showing your own works or art or a recorded tape of musical performance (necessary only for those majoring in fine arts or music)

(3) Other forms or documents as requested by the educational department you are applying to enter

* Note: In the case that any of the forms or documents are written in a language other than Japanese or English,
you must include a translated Japanese or English version of it along with the original.
4. Selection process
Decisions will be made by a committee in each of the graduate school departments and based on a review of the materials submitted by each applicant and an internet interview when it is requested.
5. Deadline for Submission
(1) All materials must reach our office by August 19, 2005
(2) Be sure to send the envelope by a form of registered mail (such as EMS, etc.)
(3) On the front of the envelope, please write "Monbukagakusho Scholarship Application Form"
6. Please submit all materials to the following address:

7. Points to remember
(1) Materials received after the deadline date (August 19, 2005) will not be accepted for any reason.
(2) All materials received by the university will not be returned to applicants.
(3) All applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process by mail in mid-September.
Successful applicants will be sent a "Certificate of Enrollment" or a "Letter of Acceptance."
(4) Successful applicants should submit their "Certificate of Enrollment" or "Letter of Acceptance." to their Japanese Embassy/Consulate General by the date designated by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General.
(5) Confirmation of the content of academic classes and the selection of an academic advisor should be carried out by carefully reading the Kumamoto University homepage.
(6) Any inquiries regarding the selection process will not be answered.
(7) Personal information written on all relevant documents will only be used for the selection by Kumamoto University and will not be given out to any third parties.
