Master's Course in Letters
 |
The Master's Course in Letters was established in 1972. Its educational system is composed of four majors, which are: 1) human studies, 2) regional science, 3) history, and 4) language and literature, and a total of 21 courses of study. A high degree of technical education is taught in the various social and cultural science areas. Until now the department has turned out a large number of graduates who have found jobs in the fields of education (university, technical college, and high school levels), the government, and the mass media.
In addition, in order to solve the complicated problems of modern society, as well as to respond to the problems and requests of local communities, the following steps were taken: the curriculum was reformed, a system where students have multiple academic advisors was implemented, a selective exam system for working adults was instituted, and a system that offers classes both at day and during the night was introduced and enhanced. Along with these steps, the department is also experimenting with a wide array of new approaches, such as collaborative research projects with local communities.
In 2002 the Graduate School of Social and Cultural Sciences (PhD program) was established, opening up a new option for departmental graduates to continue their educational research.
In April 2008, the Master's Course in Letters and the Master's Course in Law are integrated, and incorporated into the Graduate School of Social and Cultural Sciences.
