Influenza/H1N1 Swine Flu Update

The nation’s first domestic swine flu infections were confirmed in Kobe on May 16, and the number of newly confirmed infections has been increasing in Hyogo and Osaka. At Kumamoto University, the swine flu emergency committee has been reviewing its emergency operations and these plans including cancellation of classes will be activated as necessary. Please check the guidelines listed below and respond to the situation calmly.

●Kumamoto University has been working in coordination with national and local health agencies, and all the undergraduate and postgraduate classes at the university can be cancelled if infection is confirmed in Kumamoto Prefecture and its neighboring areas.

●If you must travel to an area in Kansai that has reported cases of swine flu, please focus on ways to avoid transmission of the flu.

●When you come back to Kumamoto from areas affected by the flu, closely monitor your health for seven days, and if you become ill with fever and other symptoms of H1N1 flu like cough and sore throat, contact the nearest ‘Hatsunetsu Sodan Center (High-fever Consultation Center) and follow their advice.

●Please keep informed with important notice on the university website and the most up-to-date information from government agencies such as Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.


Information on consultation about new influenza

If you have any suspicious symptoms of swine flu such as cough, sore throat and body ache, contact one of the following ‘Hatsunetsu Sodan Centers (High-fever Consultation Centers)’ to seek advice before visiting a clinic or hospital.
