Courtesy Call from German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe
On February 13, Dr. Gerold Amelung, the Consul General of the German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe, paid a courtesy call on the president of Kumamoto University, Dr. Tatsuro Sakimoto.
Dr. Sakimoto explained the current academic and student exchanges with German universities at Kumamoto University. Then, Dr. Amelung asked about the education of the German language at Kumamoto University and Dr. Sakimoto mentioned that many students at the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Medical Sciences took German classes as a selective foreign language.
During the visit, Dr. Amelung and Dr. Sakimoto actively discussed the current issues on the higher education in German and Japanese universities such as the topic of the classes instructed in English language in order to respond to the increase of international students who speak English.
