Kumamoto University Has Signed University-Level Academic and Student
Exchange Agreements with the Pole University of Bordeaux

Kumamoto University signed university-level academic and student exchange agreements with 6 universities and institutes of the Pole University of Bordeaux on February 6, 2007. In Bordeaux, there are 4 universities, 15 higher research institutes known as ‘Grandes Ecoles’ in France, and 4 vocational education universities, and the organization of the cooperative entity is called ‘Pole University of Bordeaux’.

Kumamoto University signed with the following universities and institutes;

- Bordeaux 1 University (Science and Technology)
- Victor Segalen - Bordeaux 2 University (Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences)
- Michel de Montaigne - Bordeaux 3 University (Humane Studies)
- Montesquieu - Bordeaux 4 University (Law and Economics)
- The National Graduate School of Chemistry and Physics of Bordeaux
- Bordeaux Institute of Political Studies

Approximately 59,000 students are studying at these universities and institutes and they aggressively promote research activities and student exchanges with domestic and international universities and institutes.

Kumamoto University Faculty of Letters and the Michel de Montaigne - Bordeaux 3 University have been in the partnership with the academic and student exchange agreements since 2005. Since then, the two universities have worked together in the various areas including international symposium and student exchanges. Following this agreement, Kumamoto University and the Graduate Engineering School of Information and Communication Technologies of Bordeaux reached the university-level academic and student exchange agreements in May 2006. Based on these backgrounds, Kumamoto University expanded the relationship with 6 universities and institutes of the Pole University of Bordeaux, and concluded the academic and student exchange agreements in February 2007.

As the agreement concluded, it is expected to develop the mutual exchanges in the various fields of research and student exchanges and to have a chance to strengthen the relationship with European universities and institutes.
